Beadication

WELCOME  TO BEADICATION!!!

I make lampworked beads in my home studio on a Nortel Mega Minor torch and an oxygen concentrator. All my beads are properly annealed in a digitally controlled kiln so they will last a lifetime.

Art Glass News Weekly 11/04/09

Sorry..
First off I want to offer an apology for no issue last week. Right now this is a one woman show and so when the stuff hits the fan, there is no one else to help clean it up. Now let us return to the task at hand....

October Centerfold

This months centerfold is one of my favorite artists I know. Not only does she do amazing things with glass, but she is a wonderful person all around. She has always gone out of her way to be helpful to other artists. When she published her first tutorial, we sat in a chat room as we discussed her technique. She never one said, you need to buy it to learn the secret, she just talked it out with me. When asked to write a couple of paragraphs about herself, this is what she says:
"I started lampworking in 2004 after being encouraged to take a class. The class was a beginner class. Basically on how to make a round bead.
I bought all the supplies, starting out on a hot head . I only torched now and then, but eventually I  bought a kiln and a minor torch and started torching more often, selling my beads on ebay and eventually on etsy.
Lampworking and selling my work is my only job/hobby. I do it as a hobby but also make money at it. I don't have any other job, so I lampwork full time. If you can call it full time. I work when I feel like it.
I have no pressure to make a certain amount of money so it allows me to be creative and relaxed about what I'm making and not have to mass produce. So I enjoy what I do and hope to keep doing it for as long as I continue to enjoy it. I enjoy always learning something new, new techniques, using new colors etc."
She doesn't mention her highly successful tutorials or the fact that her beads are all miniature works of art that inspire people daily. For all of those reasons, I am proud to introduce you to Art Glass News Weekly's first Centerfold, for October 2009...
Shari Slonski
I have added some of her pictures here but to see more of her work you can find her on etsy & eBay. She also has an etsy store to promote Breast Cancer Awareness and the fight for a cure, you can find that art here.
